Discover - Mauritius

Mauritius, lying east of Africa in the Indian Ocean is a Muslim traveller's perfect destination for a welcoming experience. Home to some of the world’s most picturesque beaches from Grand Baie in the north to Le Morne in the south, Mauritius is a year-round destination with warm weather and tropical vibes making it suitable to almost everyone from Muslim honeymooners to families

Arriving into the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam airport on the south-east of the island, the capital Port Louis is an hour drive across the island to the west coast. Mauritius is made up of several areas, with many of our resorts featured close to local villages. Being a multicultural society, each community you’ll drive through will have a mosque, a church and a temple to represent the people that make up the island’s population. Some of the most eye-catching coastlines can be found in Grand Gaube, Flic en Flac and Le Morne with long beaches and warm waters. What makes Mauritius so attractive is the wide array of experiences on the island meaning you could easily spend two weeks and have plenty to see and do from the Seven Coloured Earth at Charmarel to zip-lining at Casela Park.

Highlights

Mauritius has something for everyone from world class fishing, diving and snorkelling, hiking, wildlife experiences and golf courses to name a few. Experience the marine life without getting wet with a submarine experience or spend an afternoon sampling the local tea plantations in the centre of the island. A popular excursion is to explore the outlying islands, with Ile aux Cerf on everyone’s must-do experiences. Set sail from the east coast and head to the uninhabited island on a catamaran. With a halal BBQ lunch on board, spend the afternoon viewing the island of Mauritius from the calm waters.

Muslim Friendly Amenities

For Muslim travellers, halal food is readily available at all the resorts featured on Rihaala. If you spend your day exploring, then there are plenty of local Muslim restaurants that are well worth a try. Local eateries in Grand Baie serves fresh Mauritian biryani daily, and if you find a local festival then you’re bound to find local Dhalpuri delicacies. There are too many dining options to recommend, however, our favourites include Teppan at the Maradiva resort and the Floating Market at the St. Regis Resort.

For those looking for a halal friendly honeymoon, then resorts like Maradiva, Shanti Maurice, the Beachcomber Troux aux Biches and the Angsana Balaclava all offer private pool villas and suites ensuring you have complete privacy. The newly renovated One&Only Le Saint Géran is perfect for both honeymooners and Muslim families as is the stunning St. Regis Resort. When booking with Rihaala, alcohol will be removed from your room and the Qibla direction provided when you arrive. For beach lovers, Mauritius is welcoming of modest beachwear for Muslim guests and with plenty of beaches around the country, you’ll never find a crowded beach.
